LUDINGTON, Mich- A man in Mason County recently saved a baby girl’s life with an unusual tool.
Two weeks ago, five month old Nessa was being watched by a babysitter when she suddenly stopped breathing. Bill Hogenson was working on his truck nearby when he heard the babysitter call 911 for help. “At first I was in disbelief that did I just hear that. So I started jogging towards her,” said Hogenson.
Hogenson ran into the home and started performing CPR on the infant. When that didn’t work, he ran into the kitchen and grabbed a turkey baster from a drawer. Hogenson used the device to clear Nessa’s airways and started patting her back. “She quit crying and she smiled at me and I knew that we were going to be in the good,” said Hogenson.
Nessa’s parents say it was fate the Hogenson was nearby working on his truck, and that they’re eternally grateful that he saved their only child.
