More Suspects Charged in Battle Creek Shooting

Battle Creek Police File PhotoBATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The Battle Creek Police Department has filed charges against three individuals in connections with the June 2 shooting on Greenwood Ave.

Police have charged Tyria Johnson and Tyreise Carpenter with aiding and abetting. Timothy Crape has been charged with lying to police during an attempted murder investigation. Carpenter and Crape also face gang-related charges. Police believe that their actions during the shooting were gang related.

Investigators say that they were able to determine that Johnson told Haymer of the victim’s location and Carpenter drove Haymer to the scene of the shooting. Crape was at the location during the shooting but had told police he was not there and did not have any knowledge of the crime.

On Wednesday, Dawon Haymer was taken into custody by local authorities in Louisiana and will be extradited back to Battle Creek to face charges.

The shooting happened in the 100 block of Greenwood Avenue. The Battle Creek Police Department believe Haymer fired several rounds at Jonathon Mark Jones before taking off.

Haymer is being charged with assault with intent to murder, carrying a concealed weapon, felony firearm and felon in possession of a firearm.
