Free Chalk Art Fun in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.. —  The sidewalks in a section of Grand Rapids will come to life with your artistic help as everyone is invited to take part in the free Chalk Flood on Saturday, June 22.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the third block of Monroe Center (between Ionia Avenue and Division Avenue) will be closed to traffic to create a festival-like atmosphere complete with sidewalk chalk, live music, food vendors, and programming from downtown cultural organizations.

The chalk will be handed out to everyone who comes, organizers said.

A rain date of Sunday, June 23, has been set.

Prizes from various merchants will be awarded for different categories of chalking including:

  • $200 gift certificate to Gina’s Boutique
  • $200 gift certificate to Lee & Birch
  • $100 gift certificate to Head Over Heel’s Shoe Boutique
  • $100 gift certificate to 6.25 Paper Studio
  • $100 gift certificate to Jagger Madison
  • Guided fly fishing trip from Streamside Guide Services
  • Golf gift certificate to English Hills Country Club
  • Flowers for 1 month to Bokay
  • Toddler Strider Bike from Central District Cyclery
  • Sweet Yo’s Party for up to 15 people
