BANGOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Marijuana plants were found growing in a corn field southwest of Bangor late Sunday after a deputy got suspicious about a truck driving around in the field.

By Sunday night, a 42-year-old Bangor man was being sought, though his name has not been released.

Sometime Sunday, a Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol noticed a white pickup driving around in the corn field in the 64000 Block of CR 376. Unnoticed by the pickup driver, the deputy watched for a while and returned in the evening to observe the activity some more.

The pickup driver eventually tried to leave the field but got the truck stuck. He ran off into some woods and is being sought. Around 80 marijuana plants were found in the field, and the truck was discovered to have been stolen.

A police dog tracking the suspect lost the scent.

The homeowner cooperated with investigators, police said.
