GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A slow-moving weather system will slide through the Great Lakes this week and increase the chances of thunderstorms for the next several days.

Storms were already developing across northern Illinois Monday morning; any of those that survive the trip over Lake Michigan may affect areas south of Grand Rapids through midday and early afternoon.  Outside of that line, some isolated thunderstorms may develop in spots elsewhere during the daytime.

Additional storms will likely move in from the west Monday night, possibly holding off until early Tuesday morning.

As the main low-pressure center moves in, several more chances for storms will exist during the day Tuesday and Wednesday.  The Storm Prediction Center has included West Michigan in the “slight risk” category for severe weather each of those days.

Heat & humidity should start to move out of the region Thursday, but some scattered showers and possibly thunderstorms will still be possible at times late in the week and over the weekend.
