COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — Ever wonder what goes on before a game can be played at Fifth Third Ballpark? West Michigan Stories went behind the scenes to see all the things that happen before the game gets started on a typical day. You may be surprised at some of the interesting things we found!

From muddying each baseball with the umpires, to changing the manual scoreboard in left field. Hundreds have a job to do before, during, and after every home game. This year marks the 20th season of the Whitecaps at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park. Click here to see their schedule.

Almost 5,000 hot dogs are prepared and sold on a typical day along with a thousand snow cones and another 1,000 packs of cotton candy. Whitecaps radio announcer Ben Chiswick comes in early and prepares for a day of play by play by gathering stats and information long before the game starts.

Before the game players are typically stretching on the field or grabbing a bit to eat in the clubhouse. Grounds crews are preparing the infield and fans are beginning to pour in. For those of us that have gone to a Whitecaps game and can never get beyond the normal seats or in to the upper suites, make sure to click the video to get the full tour of Fifth Third Ballpark behind the scenes.
