GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — More thunderstorms are likely to impact West Michigan through midday, and possibly again later in the afternoon and evening hours.

A line of storms moving through southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois may strengthen as it spreads eastward through the daytime hours.  The main severe weather threat from these storms would be gusty straight-line winds in excess of 60 mph.  A Severe Thunderstorm Watch may be issued for parts of southwest Michigan for this potential.

Already, two rounds of storms have brought heavy rain to parts of West Michigan, with some isolated reports of power outages and damage, much of which may have been caused by lightning, which was very impressive in those storms.  That was on top of scattered damage reports near the Indiana border with storms Monday night that contained some gusty straight-line winds.

Rainfall totals around the Kalamazoo area and in parts of Van Buren County were in excess of two inches Tuesday morning.  Localized flooding is possible as additional storms drop heavy rain later in some of the same areas.

More storms will likely develop later in the day as well, with the majority of those passing through Illinois and Indiana, maybe only clipping areas south of I-94.

We’ll still see another round or two of storms possible Tuesday night and Wednesday as well before the main area of low pressure pulls away from the region Wednesday night into Thursday.
