Two-and-a-Half-Year-Old Killed in Cedar Springs Crash

Cedar Springs CrashCEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. — A 2 1/2 year-old boy was killed in a car crash Tuesday after being ejected from his car seat at the intersection of Myers Lake Avenue and 17 Mile Road near Cedar Springs.

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, a truck driven by 65-year-old Howard City man John Heeringa ran the stop sign heading northbound on Myers Lake Avenue.  He crashed into an SUV driven by 33-year-old Paula Zuniga, the mother of the deceased boy.

There were also two other children in the SUV, one 3 1/2 and the other 1 1/2 years old.  They were also injured and transported to Helen Devos Children’s Hospital.

Alcohol was not involved with the crash and it remains under investigation, according to sheriffs.

    They need to put grooves in the road to tell the drivers on Meyers lake rd that they need to stop at the stop sign. My accident was at 18 mile and Meyers lake rd because the driver ran the stop sign. I feel sorry for the parents of the child who was killed. Somebody needs to do a study and bring the county the number of accidents on meyers lake road by drivers failing to stop at stop sign.
