State Officials Confirm Norovirus Caused Tough Mudder Illness

Tough Mudder Possible Norovirus OutbreakLANSING, Mich. — Officials at the Michigan Department of Community Health have confirmed that the outbreak of illness at this year’s Tough Mudder event at the Michigan International Speedway was caused by norovirus.

More than 200 reports of the illness were received from event attendees since July 1.  Symptoms of norovirus include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps as well as fever, chills and fatigue.  Symptoms typically last from one to two days.

Norovirus is is highly transmittable and can be transmitted from physical contact with another infected person.
