Monday Forecast: Showers & Thunderstorms

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The whole day won’t be rainy, but Monday will feature at least one widespread round of showers and thunderstorms that will slide through West Michigan roughly around midday.

A cold front to the west carries a line of thunderstorms with it through much of Wisconsin and into northern Illinois.  That line is expected to impact the FOX 17 viewing area from late morning until early-to-mid afternoon.

A few scattered showers and thunderstorms have already been developing around the region Monday morning, with a 40 mph wind gust reported near Greenville.  However, severe weather is not expected from storms that move through on Monday.

Very warm and humid conditions will continue through the next couple of days, with highs in the 80s on Monday and dew points around 70°.  That will keep temperatures near 70° again overnight Monday night, with some areas of fog likely to develop by daybreak Tuesday.

Severe weather will become increasingly likely during the day Tuesday, as daytime sunshine allows the air to destabilize and temperatures to climb near 90° by the afternoon.  Storms that develop to the west with another cold front will move into West Michigan and bring a threat of damaging wind gusts to the area especially in the evening and overnight period.

Behind that front, the area will get a chance to dry out and become less humid for the second half of the week.  You can check out interactive radar and the 7 Day Forecast on the Weather page.
