GREENVILLE, Mich., — Samantha Schwandt put a unique spin on the yard sale she held outside her home Friday. Instead of asking people to pay cash for the items, she only requested that they ‘pay it forward’ to someone else.
“Everything is free. There’s mens, womens clothes,” explained Schwandt. “I just figured this way they could feel good about themselves and know that their doing something good for the stuff they took and I’m helping people out.”
Depending on how many items they took, Schwandt told folks to initial next to different things they could do on a list of good deeds. The “customers” were then expected to complete the act of kindness, based on the honor system.
“Most of the things on the list are things I usually do so, I thought how hard could it be?” she said. “I know I’m not always financially equipped to do those things but I still do them. How hard can it be for other people to do it and especially if they’re getting something out of it?”
Schwandt held the special sale from 9am-4pm. She said any items that were left would be donated.
