Three Vehicle Accident; Elderly Woman Dies

MSP Michigan State Police file photo generic dayWAVERLY TOWNSHIP, Mich- Around 11:00 pm Friday night, A vehicle driven by Betty Horton from Bangor, MI was travelling westbound on M-43, when her vehicle crossed the center line into on-coming traffic and sideswiped a vehicle heading eastbound causing that vehicle to leave the road. After the first collision with the eastbound vehicle, Ms. Horton’s vehicle then struck another vehicle head-on in the eastbound lane.

Ms. Horton, 83, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

All occupants of the other vehicles were transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment.  Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Everyone involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.

The Michigan State Police are still investigating this crash.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police, Paw Paw Post, were dispatched to the report of a personal injury crash located on M43 near 40th St. Initial investigation at the scene determined that a vehicle driven by an 83 year old female from Bangor was traveling westbound on M43. The vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and side swiped a vehicle traveling eastbound, causing that vehicle to leave the roadway. After the collision with the eastbound vehicle, the westbound vehicle then struck another eastbound vehicle head on. The 83 year old female of the westbound vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

The cause of this crash is unknown at this time. Occupants of the other vehicles were transported to Bronson- Kalamazoo for treatment of injuries sustained during the crash. It is believed these individuals will recover from their injuries. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. Seatbelts were worn by all vehicle occupants.
