HOLLAND, Mich.-  Holland Police are investigating an accident on 24th street and U.S. 31 after a crash just after four this morning.

Police say Joseph Fenwick was going west on 24th street when he ran a red light causing the accident. That accident caused some of his four kids, ages 10, 7, 5, and 2 to be thrown from the car. The entire family was hurt and injuries ranged from fractured bones to cuts, they were all taken to the hospital for treatment. The other driver in the accident was not injured.

Police say Fenwick did not have a valid driver’s license and the case will be sent to the prosecutor for review. Officers say speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

it would be great to know if car seats were used properly in this incident as we all know that proper use of car restraints would greatly reduce the likely hood that a child would be ejected in a crash and given the ages of these children only one could possibly be ineligible for a car seat under Michigan state law. these are things that should be reported.

Car seats or not why was he driving without a License .See that seat belt law sucks we are forced to wear a belt to strap us in to protect us and we have steel all around us to protect us!! But yet I can ride a motorcycle with no helmet! Where I have 2 wheels and nothing to protect me from being thrown. How many of you have been driving down the street or highway and had a bug hit your windshield?Think of being on a motorcycle getting hit by a bug while going 75 in the highway? So quit with the seat belts crap.WHY WAS HE DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENSE AND WHT THE HECK ARE YOU OUT WITH 4 KIDS AT 4 AM?

I agree with Tracy, I used to be an EMT and i have pulled up onto scenes where people were ejected (adults) from cars and the seat belt failed. Motorcyclists are allowed to where no helmet (which) protect the most important part of your body, if you get into a major accident with no helmet on you are either dying or going to have major head injuries because you didnt where a helmet so its the same thing as the seat belt and why in the world does he have them out at that time, Kids should be in bed at 4AM that is horrible. I hope CPS gets involved with this one for him putting these kids in danger.

I am the mother. We were on our way to the hospital at 4 am that’s why we were out with my 4 babies. My kids were in car seats, 2 nd and 3 rd row seats in car were recalled and we did not know. Mind your own business and stop talking crap about mine.

Don't forget the mother! She is a JUST as guilty for putting her children in danger KNOWING he was unlicensed and NOT buckling her children. Both are adults and know the laws and rules of the road and didn't protect their children, placing their innocent lives in danger! SELFISH and so sad. Those poor children!

As a few have said, there is no excuse for those children to be out at 4am, he should not have been driving with no license. And as for the mother, who knows if she even knew this was happening. But I agree that this incident needs further investigation. Those poor children.
