COMSTOCK PARK, Mich.- The fourth annual West Michigan Whitecaps and Van Andel Institute Purple Community Game will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, at Fifth Third Ball Park.

Doors to the event will open at 6p.m.

The idea behind the purple-themed evening is to promote awareness of cancer along with neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. It’s also a way to honor the memories of those already taken.

Whitecaps players will be wearing purple jerseys, some of which will be auctioned off. There will also be purple-themed concessions and giveaways on top of all of the other interactive fun that families will find at a Whitecaps game.

Throwing out the first pitch is cancer activist Susan Brogger, whose mother, Mari J. Meyer, passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2012.
