GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Marie Nettles, 47, was found in Ken-O-Sha Park Thursday morning, family tells us she was strangled.

The first splash of headlines after Nettles’ body was discovered focused on her past, a history of prostitution.

But, her family wants people to know Nettles was a kind and loving woman.  They called her Mother Goose, a mother of five and grandmother of 14.

They say the night before Nettles was found dead they say she was making pizza with her grandchildren.

“She loved showing her grandbabies how to swim, she was good at showing them how to do that in the lakes,” her daughter said.

Family says Marie loved the water, flowers and baking.  Daughters Alisha and Melissa Nettles say she knew how to make anywhere feel like a home.

Friday, Nettles’ daughters Alisha and Melissa went to Plaster Creek Trail to see where their mother was found when the man who found her body approached them.

“It did give us some closure,” Alisha Nettles said.
