ALLEGAN COUNTY,Mich. — Allegan County Environmental Health Division Issues Public Health Advisory for the Bathing Beach at Pier Cove.

Six beaches on Lake Michigan including Westside County Park, Pier Cove Beach, Douglas Beach, Oval Beach in Saugatuck, Saugatuck Dunes State Park and Laketown Township Park are being monitored for water quality within Allegan County. Results of samples taken Monday, August 12, 2013 from the bathing beach revealed the surface water quality at Pier Cove failed to meet the State of Michigan’s Water Quality Standards for partial body contact.

Residents are advised to have no body contact with the surface water at this location.  In addition, signs have been posted at the site to inform the public to avoid total body contact with the surface water at this location.  The Allegan County Health Department will continue to monitor these locations; when the water quality meets Michigan’s Water Quality Standard the public health advisory will be lifted and the signs removed.
