Salsa Showdown Saturday at Holland Farmers Market

HOLLAND, Mich.- Do you have a wonderful salsa recipe that everyone just raves about? The Holland Farmers Market is the place for you to be on Saturday, Aug. 17 starting at 9 a.m. Contestants will have two hours to make three gallons of salsa using complimentary tomatoes, peppers, onions and cilantro from Visser Farms. The public is then invited, starting at 1 p.m., to taste the salsa for just $3.00

The entry fee for the amateur division is $20 while restaurants, catering companies, chefs and other food service members will be competing for the traveling trophy. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will receive $100. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Aug. 14. There will also be a panel of celebrity judges.

There is also a Jalapeno eating contest on Saturday, as well. Each person will be given a plate of peppers and have to eat as many as they can in three minutes. The entry fee is $10 which also includes a $3 ticket to get into the Salsa Showdown.  A medal and cash prize will be given to first place, along with medals to second and third. The deadline to enter the contest is Friday, Aug. 16.
