The Ban On Swimming At Pier Cove Has Been Lifted

ALLEGAN COUNTY,Mich. — The Allegan County Health Department is lifting the Public Health Advisory against body at Pier Cove today.  The advisory was issued Tuesday, August 13, 2013, based on sample results for samples collected on Monday, August 12, 2013.  The sample results from Monday, August 12, 2013, revealed 2,164.01 E. coli colonies per 100 milliliters (ml) of water.  The standard for total body contact for Michigan bathing beaches is 300 colonies of E. coli per 100 ml.  The standard for no body contact is 1,000 colonies of  E. coli per 100 ml. Samples were collected on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, after the Advisory was issued and the following results were received this morning:

    Pier Cove              16.3          colonies E. coli per 100 ml. of water

 Based on these results, the Public Health Advisory against body contact at Pier Cove is being lifted this Thursday.  Monitoring of the six public beaches on Lake Michigan will continue on a weekly basis through the week of Labor Day.
