No Drought, But Some Areas Very Dry

WEST MICHIGAN — (FOX 17) — This image from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows the entire state of Michigan is technically not in a drought, but some areas haven’t seen much rain in the past few weeks.

Here is a look at some of the rainfall totals since June 1 and the departure from normal:

  • Grand Rapids:  8.63″, 1.13″ below normal
  • Holland: 9.01″,  0.12″ below normal
  • Muskegon:  6.96″, 0.02″ below normal

It’s even drier in northern Michigan. Alpena’s total of 6.33″ is 1.25″ below normal, while Traverse City is 3.48″ below normal at 4.77″

However, areas along and south of I-94 have received plenty of rainfall this summer. Battle Creek’s total of 11.77″ is 3.03″ above normal, while Kalamazoo has a surplus of 4.25″
