ABBOTT, TX- With a police escort into town, the Ada Fire Department and their fire engine have arrived in Abbott, Texas.
Fox 17 first told you about this story back in July when the Ada Township Fire Department first started raising money for their cross-country journey. The department decided to donate the engine to the Abbott Texas Volunteer Fire Department following a fertilizer plant explosion there. The explosion killed 14 people, nine of them were firefighters.
The fire department left Ada on Wednesday, with stops in St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Dallas and after a couple of mishaps along the way, they have arrived in Abbott Texas to help their fire department with a much needed new fire engine.
When firefighters realized they were getting a new truck in Ada, they requested that the Township Board donate the engine, a sacrifice considering that if they sold the truck, it might bring in upwards of $25,000.
