GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Christian High School football standout Andre Davis is in critical condition after being shot early Sunday morning.

Police say several fights broke out and shots were fired at Latvian Hall on Grand Ave NE.  One woman was hit in the arm.

When police attempted to pull over a suspect near the hall, more shots were fired.

“Those officers have to turn and charge into that crowd and find out what is going on, see what kind of life saving measures are going on and find those responsible,” said Lt. Pat Merrill of the Grand Rapids Police Department.

Police say Davis was shot near Wealthy Street and Division Avenue. Several people fled to the nearby Chicken Coop Restaurant, where several of the fights carried on.

“A car pulled up next to him and fired shots into the car,” Merrill said.

Friends tell us Davis was shot in the back of the head.

“There were several altercations that took place at the hall,” said Merrill, who noted that there are people who know who was involved in the shooting.
