WEST MICHIGAN — Get ready for one of the hottest weeks of the summer. Heat and humidity building to our west will roll in to West Michigan for most of this week as temperatures reach the upper 80s to low 90s across the area. It will be one of the hottest weeks of the season and probably not be repeated as August is quickly winding down, sun angles are getting lower, and days are growing shorter.

We may see a few showers and thunderstorms from Monday through early Wednesday morning, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see some areas get missed by the precipitation either. So far, our hottest temps recorded this season in Grand Rapids have been July 17, 18, and 19 with temps of 95, 95, and 96. By comparison, August has been substantially cooler.

It’s also worth noting that Monday small craft advisories have been issued for boaters out on Lake Michigan from Holland northward with waves expected at three to six feet. A high beach hazard risk for swimmers and beach-goers in those same areas are also in effect with an increased risk of longshore currents, structural currents (especially on south sides of piers), and rip currents. Please be safe. A moderate beach hazard risk is in effect for the beaches along Allegan, Van Buren, and Berrien Counties.
