Ecoli in Rockford’s waterROCKFORD, Mich. — The water advisory in Rockford was lifted Friday after two consecutive tests detected no E. coli bacteria.

Because the city used chlorine to flush out the E. coli, they are recommending that residents drain their water heater and run faucets where they get drinking water for two minutes.  They also recommend replacing water filters, which don’t remove E. coli.

Several schools and businesses were closed Thursday and Friday because of the advisory.  According to a press release, a malfunction at a water treatment plant was the cause of the contamination.
