GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- The city has approved a new dog park, now it’s about raising funds to get the park opened.

“This is a nice big area, it’s almost two acres, it’s already fenced in with a really high 10-foot fence,” Jessica Kooistra of Kent County Animal Control said.

Kooistra says she sees the need for another dog park and that a city the size of Grand Rapids should have four or five dog parks.

There is one off-leash dog park in Grand Rapids near Fuller and Michigan Street.

The proposed dog park will be at the northeast corner of Covell Avenue and Bridge Street and will be called Covell Dog Park.

It will take $4,000 to get the park opened and Kooistra hopes to do that by the end of the year.

You can donate to the park on their fundraiser website.
