Man Accused of Murdering Ex Heading to Trial

Posted

KALAMAZOO, Mich., — Clinton Smith will head to trial to face murder charges in the death of his ex, 56-year-old Delores Smith.

Delores Smith was found stabbed to death inside her apartment in Portage on September 12th. Police were called to her home in Devonshire Apartments after she failed to show up for work at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home.

Clinton Smith was arrested later the same day in Saginaw, after reportedly trying to evade police.  Officers say he was found hiding under a trailer during the suspect search.

Neighbors tell FOX 17 Smith was the victim’s ex or estranged husband.

During a preliminary hearing in Kalamazoo District Court Monday, a relative of Clinton Smith, testified he saw him hours before the victim’s body was discovered, with blood on his shirt.

Walter Lee also testified that Smith showed up at his home in Flint in an unfamiliar car Thursday morning. Lee testified they spent the day together hanging out before heading to Saginaw that evening.

Smith is being held in the Kalamazoo County Jail.

A trial date hasn’t been set yet.
