196 road work construction barrelsGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Michigan’s road construction season isn’t over yet, but a lot of road work is being finished these days.

The ramp from westbound I-196 to northbound US-131 was opened late Tuesday, October 1, two days early. The ramp was scheduled for work through Thursday night.

In an unrelated but nearly project, the ramp from Leonard Street to northbound US-131 was scheduled to be opened late Wednesday, October 2. The ramp, now rebuilt, has been closed since April.

Meanwhile, in Wyoming, all lanes were opened on 28th Street between DeHoop Avenue/Michael Avenue and US-131 in a project that centered on the intersection with Clyde Park Avenue. A high traffic location, lane closures and traffic shifts proved to be daily headaches for drivers. Lane closures on Clyde Park Avenue were planned to be removed by the end of the day Wednesday, October 1.

But the news is not all sweetness and light. Lane closures and traffic shifts will remain on I-96 in Nunica until November 29. That two-year project has been upgrading the 112th Avenue and M-104 interchanges with new bridges and ramps.
