Amber Rose SmithBARTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An Amber Alert has been issued for a missing 2-year-old girl from Newaygo County.

The Newaygo County Sheriff’s Department is searching for missing 2-year-old Amber Rose Smith in Barton Township. Officials say, she’s likely incapacitated from being outside in cold temperatures for so long.

Police helicopters, K9 units and other emergency personnel are searching in the area of her home at 13 Mile Road and Cottonwood Avenue.  Her father said he noticed her missing at around 2 p.m. when he discovered their front door was open.

Amber was last seen in a black halter top with a pink tie and possibly jeans, according to officials.  She wasn’t wearing shoes.

A four-mile perimeter has been set up around the young girl’s home.  Part of that search area is Manistee National Forest.  Police crews plan to search through Tuesday night.

Deputies originally said that the girl was 3 years old, but FOX 17 has learned from family that her actual age is 2.  She is one of eight children.  According to her father, Amber and four of the other children still live at home.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Newaygo Central Dispatch at 231-689-5288.
