emilyPAW PAW, Mich. — A teenager was killed and two others were injured after the driver of a Grand Am attempted to go airborne over a bridge and flipped the car.

The driver, Emily Rose Lauer, 18, was trying to go airborne in the car over a bridge, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department.

Two other passengers in the car, an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old, were also injured. Police did not identify the passengers.

The crash happened in the 3600 block of 64th Avenue. Investigators said Lauer was speeding down the dirt road when she lost control just before the bridge.  Deputies said the car struck several trees and rolled several times.

The 16-year-old passenger who was in the front seat was able to remove herself from the car. She only had minor scrapes and bruises. However, deputies had to pull the 18-year-old from the backseat. He was taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo with serious injuries.

Lauer was pronounced dead at the scene.
