Kalamazoo fire units at Village Apartments.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — One person was taken to the hospital and another is unaccounted for in an apartment fire at Village Apartments on Lilac Lane.
Family members told FOX 17 the missing person is Daysi Sorialo, a woman in her 60s who moved to Michigan from the Dominican Republic three years ago. They also said the person who was taken to the hospital is the man she was living with. The man is in critical condition at Bronson Hospital with burns.
Neither of these identities are yet confirmed by authorities.
The fire was concentrated in a third story apartment in the back of the apartments. Firefighters had difficulty getting into the unit, because part its roof collapsed.
Neighbor Jathan Carter said he heard no alarms; he was awakened by a maintenance man who pounded on his door. “A couple of people had to come down on ladders,” Carter said.
