DETROIT, Mich- For the first time in nearly a century, the annual dog shows put on by the Detroit Kennel Club have been cancelled because there isn’t enough funding.
The Detroit Free Press reports that when the dog food company, Purina, withdrew its sponsorship a few years ago, the Kennel Club struggled to find other sponsors.
The Detroit Kennel Club has held dog shows since 1916. The events, which are held at Cobo Center, typically draw in about 2,000 dogs a year.
The 2014 event had been scheduled for March 2nd and 3rd.
The club hopes to bring the dog show back in 2015, possibly at a different venue.
