GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man serving an 11-year jail sentence in California may also be linked to the August murder of a 47-year-old Kent County woman.

Grand Rapids police have requested a DNA swab from Demarco Marquis Carnegie, who they believe is tied to the Aug. 8 murder of Marie Nettles.  Nettles’ body was discovered on the Ken-O-Sha Trail in Grand Rapids, and police say DNA samples at the scene have made Carnegie a suspect.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Department in California, he was arrested Aug. 14 and later pleaded no contest to robbery charges.  Grand Rapids police are waiting for more DNA testing before requesting a local warrant for Nettles’ murder.
