GRAND RAPIDS, Mich-  Some West Michigan students are getting into the holiday spirit in a very hands-on way. The West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology has been chosen to design and create ornaments for Michigan’s Christmas tree for the 2013 National Christmas Tree display in Washington, D.C.

The students have teamed up with guest artist, Kelly Allen to create pieces that represent Michigan in the winter time. Once they’re done, the artwork will be put into glass bulbs that will eventually decorate the tree in President’s Park.

“It’s really fun to see how their imaginations translate into ideas,” Allen told FOX 17.

This year’s display will feature works from all the U.S. states, territories and the District of Columbia.

The West Michigan team is hoping to have their pieces done by November first, and plan to visit the display in December. If you’d like to help make that trip possible, just visit their website.
