KENT COUNTY, Mich. — With the National Weather Service predicting rain and gusty winding during prime trick-or-treat hours on Thursday, the thought of rain was on shoppers minds. However, that didn’t mean they were going to shy away from the free treats.

Many shoppers we spoke to say they will simply take along an umbrella. Others say even if they get wet, the free candy is worth it.

Gayle Vaartjes is the owner of the Kostume Room in Wyoming. She said that the store is typically filled with last minute shoppers the night before Halloween, but she feared the rainy forecast might scare some people away.

“I think a lot of people are having their parties inside. I know it’s hard on the trick-or-treater kids, but I’m sure even some of them have it inside, so I don’t think it matters.”

Resurrection Life Church in Grandville said they are planning for more children to attend their indoor carnival because of the wet weather.

“We had a great amount of donations from our church, but we did have to run out and get some more candy today, and the weather definitely affected the amount of candy that we were going to buy. We anticipate having a few more people coming in just because of the chance of rain for trick or treating,” said Rachel Vandenbrink.
