GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.–The Salvation Army announced Wednesday morning that a local songwriter, Ralston Bowles, and local folk music band, Bennett, will provide an original song that will play a role in this year’s Red Kettle Campaign.

Give Till It Helps will be released on November 15.  The campaign kicks off at 10 a.m. that day and will run until the end of January 2014.

The song was called “the soundtrack for this year’s campaign” by the Salvation Army Kent County Coordinator Major Bob Mueller.

The song will be available as a download for a minimum $1 donation, with all of the money raised going to the Red Kettle Campaign. The artists are donating all publishing and performance royalties.

The musical effort is a first for the annual holiday fundraiser. In another first, Bowles and Bennett will perform in a Red Kettle Kickoff Concert on November 15 at 7 p.m. The concert will be free at Baker Book House, 2768 East Paris Avenue, but tickets are required. (Click for tickets)

The Salvation Army is hoping to raise $1.75 million in West Michigan to help with over 8,000 families they assist throughout the year.
