GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Two people have been killed in a shooting early Thursday morning, and police say one of the men who died was a suspect.

It happened at around 12:53 a.m. at New York Fried Chicken, which is located at Division and Franklin SE.  Police say it started as an armed robbery that turned deadly.  We are told that one of the people who was killed, was actually the suspect.  He’s described as a 20-year-old man who had just celebrated his birthday on Wednesday.  The other victim has been identified as 23-year-old Dominick Floyd.

Detectives say one person turned himself in at the hospital, and police are now talking to that individual.  All they say is that he was involved in the incident, but it’s not clear if he is being treated as a suspect.  At least one weapon was also recovered.

The GRPD detective in charge of the investigation told FOX 17 News that the man who apparently shot the robber was in legal possession of his gun; the robber’s possession was illegal.
