EAST LANSING — In the annual meeting between the two in-state rivals, the Michigan State defense dominated and led the Spartans to a 29-6 win over Michigan.

The Spartans sacked Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner seven times and kept Michigan to -48 yards rushing, setting a new single-game low in the Wolverines program history.

After trading field goals for most of the first half, Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook hit Bennie Fowler for a 14-yard touchdown pass to put the Spartans up 13-6 at halftime.

Cook would add a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, and Jeremy Langford capped off the scoring with a 40-yard touchdown run to give Michigan State a 23-point win.

Michigan State improves to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play. The Spartans are the only team in the Legends Division that doesn’t have a conference loss. Michigan falls to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in Big Ten play.
