BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — A standoff situation started around 9 p.m. Thursday at a home on Cramer Road just south of Big Rapids in Mecosta County. Police are treating the case as, in their words, a “murder/hostage standoff.”

Several law enforcement agencies responded, including Michigan State Police and the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Department.

The standoff continued all night, but all women and children inside the home are safely out of the house as of 6:30 a.m. Friday.

Robert Baker told FOX 17 that his daughter and granddaughter live in the home.

Two ambulances left the scene, taking the women and children to a hospital to be checked out.

Michigan State Police cleared the scene around 7:30 a.m. with no threat to public safety.

A news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m.
