KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. – The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department is on the scene of a crash involving an Amtrak train.

The sheriff’s department tells FOX 17 at least one person was killed after an Amtrak train heading toward Chicago struck a person Wednesday afternoon in Oshtemo Township.

Paul Crisher, a passenger on-board the train wrote on Facebook, “I’m on the Amtrak heading to Chicago and we have stopped at K L Ave and S 11th St. The Amtrak blew the horn and slammed on the brakes.”

He said, “We’ve been stopped for about an hour now. The conductor blew the horn for about 20 seconds and we stopped very quickly.  We’re being told a person stepped in front of the train and it was fatal. No other information.”

Amtrak tells FOX 17 there was a trespasser on the track before the crash.

Amtrak services southwest Michigan with its Wolverine Line which runs between Chicago and Detroit.
