LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State University Spartan football team landed at Lansing’s Capital City Airport Sunday afternoon as their attention turns now to the Rose Bowl.

The Spartans win against Ohio State University Saturday night sends them to the first national championship in Pasadena, Calif. since 1988.

Following the game, in East Lansing revelers took to the streets prompting police to display a show of force in riot gear.  Meantime, fans around the world celebrated the win including MSU head baseball coach Jake Boss who posted a picture on Twitter holding a green and white flag atop Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Spartans defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes 34-24 in the Big Ten Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis Saturday night. The Spartans now have 12 wins in a season for the first time in school history and snapped Ohio State’s 24-game winning streak.

Michigan State sophomore quarterback Connor Cook was named the game’s most valuable player, winning the Grange-Griffin award. Cook went 24-of-40 for a career-high 304 yards passing and three touchdowns. Junior running back Jeremy Langford ran for 128 yards on 24 carries and scored the final touchdown of the game with 2:16 left in the fourth quarter to seal the Spartans victory.

Michigan State is guaranteed a trip to Pasadena, California now. The Spartans will likely play in the 100th Rose Bowl Game on January 1, but could earn a trip to the BCS National Championship game which will be played in Pasadena on January 6. Most expect Auburn to get the second National Championship seed along with Florida State, which is the last undefeated FBS team in the nation. If that is the case, Michigan State would take on Stanford on New Year’s Day.
