EAST LANSING, Mich. – As Spartan fans celebrated in East Lansing early Sunday morning, riot police were brought in to control the crowds as some revelers started setting fires.
The celebrating began following Michigan State University’s victory over Ohio State University which sends the team to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
According to The State News, arrests were made including at Cedar Village Apartments where revelers lit a mattress on fire.
MSU Alumni Association president Scott Westerman said on his Twitter account, “True Spartans do not burn things, break laws or mess with my Spartan Cops If you do, you’re not one of us.”
There has been a history of celebrations turning wild in the streets of East Lansing. Police in riot gear have been brought in following games in 1991, 2001, 2005.
