Gobles Farm Shipping Hundreds of Christmas Trees to Troops

Posted

GOBLES, Mich. –Hundreds of trees are loaded up and ready to be shipped out from West Michigan to military families across the country.

Wahmhoff Nursery Farms in Gobles has been a part of ‘Trees For Troops’ for years now, but says every year it keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Despite the frigid temperatures Monday morning, Dan Wahmhoff says they had around 60 volunteers show up, more than 20 compared to last year.

This year the trees were being shipped to Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in New Orleans and a Marine base in North Carolina. The trees were donated by four other area tree farmers and consumers.

All 471 trees getting shipped out also got a special message from Gobles Elementary School Students.  A lot of the volunteers were veterans themselves, knowing how tough it is to be away from family during the holidays.

“It’s great to be on the other end now seeing what actually goes into this and how much the community takes part,” said Sgt. First Class Joshua Haddock with the U.S. Army.

Wahmhoff said his business hears from some of the families who get the trees; he said they are so touched by the support that comes from hundreds of miles away.
