high chairCOLUMBUS, Ohio – A nationwide survey shows that more children are being treated for high chair-related injuries.

About 24 children a day are being sent to U.S. emergency departments for high chair injuries, according to the study released Monday by the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. This is just over a 20 percent increase over the years the survey was conducted, between 2003 and 2010.

The most common cause of injury is from the child falling from the high chair while it’s being used or while climbing on it – most often causing head injuries.

The children’s hospital offers tips on how they can prevent your child getting hurt this way. They’re reminding parents and caregivers to use the safety restrains on the chairs, don’t rely on the tray to keep them from falling out, supervise the children and urge them to not stand up or climb on the chair and check for safety recalls.
