GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The city of Grand Rapids said that if homeowners don’t shovel the sidewalk in front of their homes, it could cost them.

The city’s sidewalk department said if cited by the city, a resident will be charged $95 in administration fees, and a minimum of $100 in plowing costs.

In Muskegon, their city ordinance says snow must be removed by 9 a.m, and snow must be removed within six hours of being issued a notice by a police officer. If a homeowner fails to do so, they will be charged the amount it costs the city to remove the snow.

The Holland Parks and Recreation Dept. said that it doesn’t actively enforce it’s shoveling ordinance because active enforcement would require extra staff and some cases would involved elderly homeowners unable to shovel.
