BawFZLdCIAAT_l3GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A 77-year-old Grand Rapids woman testified Tuesday against the man accused of raping and beating her in her Worden Street home in September.

Charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, assault and home invasion were authorized against 30-year-old Shane Chambers Dec. 5.

The woman testified in Grand Rapids District Court Tuesday that she was beaten unconscious at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sept. 19, and woke up several hours later to find that her underwear had been removed, according to the Kent County Prosecutor’s Officer.

The prosecutor’s office also said that a nurse examined the woman and found that she had been raped.  The nurse said that the woman was beaten so severely that her eyes were swollen shut.

Another woman also testified against Chambers Tuesday for a sexual assault that happened 11 years ago.  According to the prosecutor’s office, the 74-year-old Macomb County woman said that Chambers sexually assaulted her for more than four hours.

He was convicted in that crime and sentenced in March 2004 to between eight and 20 years in prison.  He was paroled in June 2012.

If convicted on these charges, Chambers could spend the rest of his life in jail.

An admitted drug dealer and several people in a Bates Street crack house also testified Tuesday that Chambers allegedly sold stolen goods that matched the description of missing items from the 77-year-old’s home.  These included a purse, jewelry and credit cards, according to the prosecutor’s office.
