LOWELL, Mich. – Collector’s Korner in Lowell was robbed of about $30,000 on Friday.

Owner Rodger Ackerson said he’s been collecting rare items since 1959. He opened the store in 2006 and tells FOX 17 it was a dream come true.

“I’m lucky. I have had some of the most incredible things walk right through that door you’d ever want to see,” he said.

A lot of those items went missing when the store was broken into. Gordy Lauren, a detective with the Lowell Police Department, said it happened around 6 p.m. and that the person or people responsible tried getting in through the front door with a hole saw.

“They weren’t able to get in the front door so they went around to the back,” Lauren said. “They tried the same thing there but it didn’t work so they grabbed a prying tool and pried the door.”

Ackerson walked through the store and pointed out some of the items he lost that night.

“At one time, I had three of these, they’re not easy to find, ” Ackerson said about a rare 1901 $10 bill.  “They just don’t exist. If you come across one, find one…someone’s offering you one, find out where he got it.”

Ackerson also showed us three pages of the items that was taken from the store. His staff has sent out letters to every police agency in Michigan.

“You cast a big enough net, this guy’s going to make a mistake,” Ackerson said.

Lauren said they do have some leads but no suspects as of Wednesday night.

“Ya know, if he’d of asked me…i’d of given it [bills] to him,” Ackerson said.
