08-05-13 Painting the Mackinac BridgeMACKINAC COUNTY, Mich. – The cost to drive across Michigan’s ‘Mighty Mac’ was set to increase for travelers but officials announced Wednesday that the cost will not rise.

The increase in toll rates was originally set for Jan. 1, 2014 until the Mackinac Bridge Authority voted in July. The MBA board members voted to keep the rates for next year at the same level of $4 per-trip for passenger vehicles – a cost that was set in 2012.

The MBA Board says that they were able to delay the increase for at least one more year because workers have been able to save money and reduce costs while still maintaining the 56-year-old suspension bridge.

At the end of 2014, the board will determine whether or not to make any adjustments to the toll rates.
