KALAMAZOO, Mich.– A Kalamazoo mother who lost three young children in a deadly fire earlier this year, was back in court, Wednesday.

Jonetta Woods attended a hearing to determine whether she could get custody of her five year-old surviving daughter, who is currently living with Woods’ sister.

A jury found Woods and her ex-boyfriend, Fred Glespie, guilty of child neglect during their trial back in May. Neither are serving time.

Wednesday’s hearing was to determine what would be best for Woods’ young daughter.

A judge called a psychologist to the stand. He told the judge that he evaluated Woods and her daughter and found several things to be of concern.

He said Woods and her daughter had more of a peer-to-peer relationship rather than mother/ daughter. He also said, while Woods cared for her daughter, she can not recognize the child’s needs and that the child would be in harm if she were to go back to living with Woods.

A decision has yet to be made.
