GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — After a one-two punch of ice around West Michigan over the weekend, a more familiar pattern is returning to the area as lake-effect snow will continue for much of the region through late Monday night.

West-to-east oriented bands of snow will set up through much of the daytime and into the evening, spreading well inland from Lake Michigan.  FOX 17 Future Track HD suggests that an upper-level disturbance swinging through the region may help a heavy primary band develop along or near I-96.  This band would have the greatest chance of leaving snowfall in excess of three or four inches through Tuesday morning.  Other locations west of U.S. 131 may see a more general two to four inches, with less expected for inland areas south of I-94 and north of M-46.

The heaviest band will start to shift back southward during the night Monday, eventually moving offshore and allowing the sky to clear out inland by daybreak Tuesday.  Some sun will help get rid of some snow and ice Christmas Eve, but temperatures will still be very cold with highs only around 20°.

Another quick-moving system will leave additional snowfall for Santa by early Christmas morning.  You can check out the forecast through the rest of the holiday week, as well as interactive radar, on the Weather page.
