Power Outages May Last A Day Longer

Utility Electrical Crew Truck Consumers EnergyJACKSON, Mich. — Some Consumers Energy customers in Kalamazoo and Barry County who thought they would have power on Friday may not get electricity until Saturday.

The latest update from the Jackson-based utility gave this review of restoration estimates:

  • Wednesday: Northern Kent County
  • Thursday:  Allegan, Ionia, eastern Kent, and Montcalm counties
  • Friday: Portions of Barry, Calhoun, Kalamazoo, western Kent County and greater Grand Rapids
  • Saturday: Some portions of Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, and Ottawa counties

An additional 1,000 utility workers from other states have joined Consumers crews.

Consumers said the impact of the two ice events was greatest in more than 10 years. As of 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, about 174,000 customers statewide still had no power, down from a peak of 304,000.

The utility issued its customary county-by-county outage list, as of 5:30 a.m. Tuesday:

  • Ingham (16,945)
  • Ionia (4,656)
  • Kalamazoo (3,382)
