GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The lake-effect snow machine won’t shut down entirely Thursday, but generally lighter snow flurries should provide a break for people around West Michigan to clean up  roads, driveways, and sidewalks over the next couple of days.

An inch or two of new snow will still be possible through Thursday as lake-effect snow showers continue, followed by a quick-moving disturbance that may give the snow a brief boost Thursday evening.  Temperatures will be steady in the 20s, with wind chills in the teens throughout the day.

Snow will essentially end by Friday morning, with temperatures warming up briefly into the start of the weekend.  Saturday will be the best day of weather, with some sunshine and highs in the upper 30s.  That will allow melting of lingering ice off of trees and other surfaces before temperatures plummet once again.

Sure enough, another shot of Arctic air will arrive on Sunday and hang on through at least New Year’s Day.  That will drop high temperatures into the teens to around 20°.  Lake-effect snow will be likely at times once again, as well.
